In a move that all school districts must make at some point, the Northern Lebanon School Board has hired an architectural services company to do a feasibility study of the district’s six school buildings.

In a media press release following the board’s regular monthly meeting on March 10, Northern Lebanon School District Superintendent Dr. Gary Messinger Jr. announced that Crabtree, Rohrbaugh & Associates (CRA) will conduct their study of the district’s physical buildings and how those structures would, or would not, meet the community’s educational needs in the future.

Northern Lebanon School District is currently closed, as are all other schools in accordance with coronavirus-related regulations.

CRA has over 35 years of experience in educational building analysis, planning and architecture, and will be servicing the district through its office in Mechanicsburg. The Northern Lebanon board will use study findings to help make planning decisions that are educationally sound and financially responsible.

At some point in the process, Messinger says there will be community workshops and surveys taken to get input and feedback from the taxpaying residents and others. Traditionally, school districts have limited choices for infrastructure adjustments: Remodel, Replace, Both, or Do Nothing. LebTown will report on those activities when more is known.

As of March 1, the Northern Lebanon School District had an enrollment of 2,272 students across its half-dozen schools:

  • Northern Lebanon High School – 683
  • Northern Lebanon Middle School – 546
  • Fredericksburg Elementary School – 193
  • Jonestown Elementary School – 498
  • Lickdale Elementary School – 186
  • East Hanover Township Elementary School – 166
