Editor’s Note: Last year, Michael and Nicole Borrell began reviewing Lebanon Valley’s restaurants and eating attractions as the Lebanon Valley Food Critics. Since then, the couple has aimed to offer unbiased reviews of the eating and drinking establishments the Lebanon Valley has to offer. LebTown is pleased to be partnering with LVFC to share these reviews with our readers. Bon appétit!

Welcome to another exciting series, the “Ice Cream Wars.” We will be traveling across the Valley to find the best in local ice cream.

To begin this series, we stop at a local favorite that is celebrating its 50th season! Annie’s Soft Ice Cream is located at Route 322 and Lynmar Ave.

Annie’s features a small eating area and two windows for service. Parking can be found along the street or down the block in a stone lot. The menu offers several delectable cool treats, including cones, sundaes, ice cream sandwiches, Arctic creations, Hershey’s hard ice cream, and slushes; all with different flavors.

Today we ordered a small cone of raspberry and vanilla twist with rainbow sprinkles ($4.30) and a Georgia Peach sundae ($4.25). Our little critic got the best of both worlds and shared with both of us.

The soft ice cream is smooth and creamy; a recipe that has been consistent over many years. Our sundae hit the spot on this opening night and hopefully the start to some nice warm weather. When it comes in season, fresh peaches would be great on this dish.

Our take: The location is nestled on the corner of busy Route 322, but the sounds of the traffic don’t dampen the ability to share these treats with your family and friends along the couple of benches, tables, and cinder wall. Don’t be surprised if there is a line, it moves fast, and the ice cream will not be disappointing.

How will they fare in the ice cream wars? Where will we be off to next? Find out soon!
