John Eugene Bidding, 76, of Annville, passed away on Dec. 10, 2021, in the Good Samaritan Hospital, Lebanon, after a brief illness.

He was born on Dec. 12, 1944, in Trevorton, a son of the late Solomon E. and Grace Victoria (Zimmerman) Bidding.

John served in the United States Marine Corps from 1963 until 1967, and he was a member of the 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines based in Camp Pendleton, CA. He served two tours in the Vietnam War.

After his military service, he was employed as a conductor for the Consolidated Rail Corporation.

In 1985, John found that his real passion was working with trees and landscaping. John worked in the landscape and gardening industry for over 30 years and retired as a former partner with Luke Ellenberger of Hershey Lawn and General Maintenance, and later, David Brandt, of Brandt’s Landscaping.

John is survived by his son, J. Scott Bidding, and wife, Linda, of Palmyra, and their children, Carolyn, Lauren, Owen, and Aiden; daughter, Jennifer Venmans, and husband, Hans, of Utrecht, Netherlands; sister, Esther “Sally” Engle, of Hummelstown; step-son, Todd Koch, of Newville; step-son, Troy Koch, of Hummelstown, and his daughters, Tara and Morgan; step-son, Bruce Koch, and his wife, Michelle, of Hummelstown, and their son, Brody; and step-daughter, Julia Stover, of Hershey, and her daughters, Mackenzie, Addison, and Campbell.

John was preceded in death by spouses, Judith E. (Shott) Bidding (d. 10/2021), and Carole M. (Whitmer) Bidding (d. 5/1989); his two sisters, Florence Boscolovich and Eva Haupt; brother, Solomon Bidding; and half-brother, Marlin Raker.

A military service will be held on Monday, Dec. 20 at 9:30 a.m. at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, followed by a remembrance service at 11:00 a.m. at Lebanon Valley Bible Church, 1482 Horseshoe Pk., Lebanon.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made in John’s memory to Lebanon VA Medical Center, 1700 S. Lincoln Ave., Lebanon, PA.
