Richard J. Batz, 77, of Annville, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes on Monday, July 13, 2020. Born Monday, February 1, 1943, in Lebanon, he was the loving son of the late Joseph W. and Bertha B. (Buck) Batz. He was married to Betty L. (Popp) Batz for over 44 years until her death on August 30, 2012.

Richard was a dairy farmer. He was a steward of the land and animals. He passed this stewardship onto his children and his grandsons. Richard was an amazing caretaker to his wife and parents through their illnesses. Everyone loved Pap and everyone called him Pap. He was not one to sit around, you’d find him on a tractor or at a flea market selling goods. But when he did sit down, you would find a cup of tea in his hand.

Richard is survived by his daughter Tammy J. Murphy, married to Andrew, of Annville and his son Michael R. Batz, married to Kim, of Grantville. Also surviving are five grandchildren: Luke and Kyle Sonnen, Luke Murphy, Tristan Batz, and Kiah Reismiller, as well as Richard’s extended family and caring friends.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 17, 2020, at the Rothermel-Finkenbinder Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 25 W. Pine St., Palmyra, PA 17078, 771-838-9211 with Pastor John M. Nolt officiating. Burial will follow in Gravel Hill Cemetery, Palmyra. Closed casket visitation will take place from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Richard’s memory to the Northern Lebanon FFA Chapter (checks payable to Northern Lebanon FFA Chapter) and mailed to 345 School Drive, Fredericksburg, PA 17026.
